R'AY
see-through panels incorporate a unique, patent-pending design which
allows truly one-way viewing. The design modifies the standard
two-way mirror by angling it at 45 degrees, and assembling it in a
way that resembles horizontal window blinds. The panel surfaces
above and below the mirror sections are treated to obtain one-way
viewing. The assembled panel provides a tinted yet clear and
undistorted view from the see-through side; from the other side, the
view is a soft reflection of the wallpaper design of your choice.
The inventor, Dr.
Richard Louis Axelbaum, PhD, is an associate professor of mechanical
engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at
Washington University in St. Louis. He uses lasers and optics
extensively in his research and thus has a thorough understanding of
light, reflection, and optics. "The whole design is an optical
illusion that forces people to see what you want them to see,"
Axelbaum explained. "The beauty of it is, it's a simple, compact
design for an optical illusion that you can use in every day
applications."
